Best Television Show:
Winner: Lost- This was close for awhile, when Friday Night Lights picked up its pace, but come on, when all was said and done it was dominating, and then after the finale, it was absolutely dominating. An easy choice
Best Male Television Character:
Winner: Robert Hawkins (Jericho)- The big upset winner of the award show, he put on a run at the end of the season, and edged out this extremely competitive race. Sawyer falls just short for the third straight year, and it begs to wonder if he will ever win this, and Smash should have other chances also.
Best Female Television Character:
Winner: Taylor Townsend (The O.C)- No suspense here at all. She had the award all but dominated a long time ago, and besides a minor push by Cameron, there was no way she was losing it. The last O.C champion, it was very well deserved.
Best Reoccuring Television Character:
Winner: Mikhail Bakunin (Lost)- The other hugely close race, all five candidates had a legit claim for this title. When all was said and done though, I had to give it to the Russian who stole so many scenes, and seems to be able to cheat death. Andrew Diskoff dominated the back half of the season, when Lost was at its best.
Best Episode:
Winner: Through the Looking Glass (2) (Lost)- I hate dealing with two hour finales because of this conflict of how to handle it as an episode. I mean, in a way it gives too huge 0f an advantage, and usually it matters when I take that into account. This season, it just didn't. There is no way to not see how the season finale was the best episode of Lost ever, and that makes it easily the best episode of the season. It was a well deserved title. Oh and the "2" means I am giving the victory to the second hour, because I count an episode as 1 hour of time.
~Well, there is the end of this years Don Awards. Hopefully enjoyed them, and lets be proud looking on to 2007-2008.

Stories of the Year
Well, I have been really late on this, and with the busy weekend, I basically have to throw this together last minute but here we go.
Story #1: The Fall of Serial Dramas: I am a huge fan of the serial dramas, but this was a very bad year for them. After Invasions fail last year, alot of people didn't expect the serial drama to be prominent this coming season, but they were. Vanished, Kidnapped, Smith and Jericho were all serial dramas that started the year, and Jericho was the only one of those to survive. Now, the quaility of these serial dramas were also below par. However, this directly relates to next season tv where there are currently no real serial dramas to be found.
Story #2: The Failed Creation of CW: Well, in theory it didn't completely fail, because it does still exist, but for a channel that claimed they were going to rival network television this year, they failed horribly. For example on TVguides Emmy dream ballot they had only one nomination, and that was for lead actress in a comedy. No real success stories to speak of, and one of the few quality shows on the network (Veronica Mars) continued to be unable to find raties and crashed and burned. In the end CW took no steps forward, however with Gossip Girl next year hopefully this will change. But for now, its goals were not met at all.
Story #3: The Horrors of Mid-Season Hiatus's: Well now, you can't discuss TV without bringing up the problems with the Christmas break hiatus. Lost, Heroes, and Jericho all went on breaks of two months or more, and they all returned to lower ratings. Needless to say, this craze really won't go anywhere because of the hatred over repeats, so the midseason hiatus gives a chance to start new shows (like Day Break, which failed oh so miserably).
Story #4: How Do You Stop American Idol?: This show returned with massive ratings, bigger than anything I have ever seen, not just winning weaks but dominated them. It also created a forceful lead in that spurred "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" into being a hit and bringing
"Til Death" from a show with poor cancellable ratings, to the top Sitcom ratingwise at the end. It also crippled both Jericho and Friday Night Lights in Ratings, and forced Lost to change its timeslot to avoid it. All this, for a crappy overall talent season. However, can it be stopped. It experienced a decline for the finale at the same point Lost increased ratings. So its not completely immortal.
Story #5: Gameshows Everywhere you Look: Gameshows are an easy hit for an extremely cheap cost, and with Deal or No Deals success a year before, it was a shoo-in to be chuck full of them this season, and there was. Almost all of them were subpar (including the worst of the bunch Identity) and they all basically followed the same idea... You can play this game no matter how stupid you are, and hey it works... Hopefully this craze will die, but it won't.
Story #6: The Death and Ressurection of Jericho: Come on, what happened here was practically unheard of. When the announcement for next season came around and Jericho wasn't on it, there was mass outrage, but instead of all working alone, they created a website and a plan, and by sending over 39,000 lbs of peanuts they lifted the cancellation and got a second season return. It was unheard of what they did, and they did it while being polite and providing something that CBS is later going to use for the army and to feed the hungry. They were the first, and I would like to thank them for proving that you can fight back for your show.
Story #7: The Lack of Big Name Finales: There was only one big series finale this season, and that was Sopranas, a channel were only 8 million people watched it (which is huge for HBO). The other notable finales were Gilmore Girls and OC. With that said, compared to most years there was an actual lack of these planned series finales. It may be because of the fact more shows are getting cancelled now, but just remember... In 2010, the biggest finale of all will appear, Lost.
Story #8: Showtimes Quality Higher than HBO?: This was a year when Showtime shined qualitywise with two extremely well acted and well produced shows in Sleeper Cell: American Terror, and even more so Dexter. Dexter is going to be all over the Emmy's, and while HBO had the Wire and Sopranos, I feel that Showtime really jumped forward this season into being in the same class as HBO, or even better.
Story #9: Nielson Potential Inclussion of DVR: This is a complicated story, as Nielson Ratings are started to take into account other ways people watch television besides live. This was a big thing, because alot of people have DVR now and do not watch it in the same old fashioned way. The problem with this potential inclussion, is that when people watch DVR they likely don't watch the commercials, which means those ratings are pointless. It is going to be a difficult to deal with this in the future, but its coming more and more into light.
Story #10: Sports Failure: Sports on television failed miserably this year with atrocious ratings in three of the four championships this year. NBA, MLB, and NHL all faced record low tv ratings because of subpar matchups. This has become a concern for all of these leagues in dealing in the future. The NFL however, had the third highest rating tv event EVER, and the highest ratest semifinal game in its league history with the AFC Championship. Why, because Indy has become so marketable its rediculous. Highest television ratings of any sports team right now, and that was before they succeeded. So NFL is looking strong, but the rest...
Story #11: Most Popular Pilots become failing Shows: The three most critically acclaimed pilots coming into the season were The Nine, Studio 60, and Friday Night Lights in that order. Only one of those survived because of its critically loved season, while two completely fell flat and the critics who once praised them completely turned its back on them. Now, what this shows is that the Pilot does not make a show, and hype can't save a show alone. The Nine and Studio 60 both came out strong, and just got weaker week after week, while FNL actually went up. This might be a warning to one particular show next season that have the critics buzzing, because it could fall flat if history is proving true.
Story #12: Friday Night Lights Predicted to Clean Out The Emmys: Alot of people have been predicting that not only will Friday Night Lights will get alot of nominations, but barring a Sopranos take over (seeing it was its final season) they are favored to get alot of Emmys for its season. It was already the most nominated show for the TCA awards, and highest number of nominees in TV Guides dream ballot. In the end, maybe it won't been, but if its going as predicted get ready to see alot of Football in the awards.
Story #13: The Conclussion of a Teen Soap Classic: Ok, this story is more so just particular to me, but OC was a classic of my childhood, and when of my all time favorite shows. To see it come to its logical conclussion, and that final scene with Ryan was just powerful. Never forget about this show, because it was superb, and I will never EVER forget it.
Story #14: Looking Onward like always...: When one season ends, you always have to look forward, and it does not look bright. However, I am not completely discouraged because every season looks poor until the shows come around. Gossip Girl looks like an instant classic, and Pushing Daisies while not my type of show has the most critical acclaim I have ever seen from a show coming into a season. So yeah, for now it looks weak, but I will always find something to keep it going. Because I love television, and I always be there.
There you go, fourteen major stories. Hopefully you all enjoyed this look back on what has happened.

Individual Awards
This is my favorite part of the event. The time when I give out single rewards. You'll catch on the idea fast, but with only five major awards, this things gets slow. But there are always minor awards, and getting these still matter. So on we go into the awards. Enjoy.
Best Acting for the Season: Michael Emerson (Ben on Lost)~ Easy choice. First off, in case you didn't know this he won the Emmy for best guest star in a tv show for his job on "The Practice" and his acting has not decreased at all. He cleaned up in this award.
Runner Ups: Kyle Chandler (FNL), Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell)
Best Acting in a Single Episode: Matthew Fox (Jack on Lost for "Through the Looking Glass)~ Jack usually wins the best acting award, but this year he had a horrible flashback, and then slipped a bit behind the scenes with Juliet. Not until the finale did he dominate like we are used to with his beautiful flash forward. Well done
Runners Up: Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell: Fitna)
Most Improved Actor throughout the season: Adrian Palicki (Tyra, FNL) ~Did you know TV Guide is pushing her for best supporting actress. At the beggining of the show, she was horrible and by far the weakest link (although Lyla takes that away later on), however by the end she was a great character. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think she's Emmy worthy, but easily the most improved.
Runner Up: None
Best Newcomer: Gaius Charles (Smash, FNL)~ Most actors come from somewhere, but there are a few who are getting their first real tv gigs, and ace them. For example everyone on Lost has done something before, but Gaius Charles is completely new to the scene, and looks familiar to no one. Same with almost every single one of the kid actors besides Minka Kelly who has a little history but not alot.
Runner Up: Zach Gillford (Saracen, FNL)
Best Guest Star Within a show (meaning only one episode): Walter Perez (Reyes, FNL)~In this day and age there are not alot of one episode guest stars besides on procedurals, but I enjoyed the angry defencemen, even if he did play into a few stereotypes. Only appeared in one episode, so he fits the bill in this simple award.
Runner Up: None
Best Couple Within a TV Show: Skylar and Dale (Sleeper Cell): ~See, I don't hate all television relationships. They started out seperate, but the show never forced this relationship on us. It wasn't a weakly discussion, it practically was never put into the show much at all. And in the end they were togther, and guess what. They never spent a single second showing them fighting or not getting along. Great couple
Runner Up: Darwin and Gail (Sleeper Cell:AT)
Best TV Mother: Kirsten Cohen (OC)~Possibly my all time favorite TV mother, I will be sad to see her go
Runner Up: Tami Taylor (FNL)
Best TV Father: Noah Bennit (Heroes)~Well, this was an easy choice. The only good actor in Heroes really, and by far the best father on television this year, because he absolutely loved his daughter. Now this was a strong year, despite the lack of perrenial winner Michael of Lost, but he was the rightful winner.
Runner Up: Sandy Cohen (OC), Harry Morgan (Dexter)
Best Kid Actor (12 or Younger): Jae Head (Bo on FNL)~ By far the youngest winner of this award ever, but he was amazing at only 7. I loved that little kid and his relationship with Riggins.
Runner Up: Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah on Heroes)
Best Television Family: The Cohens (OC)~This is an easy one. They were such a perfect and enjoyable family even with all of their drama. They belonged together. Its sad that for the first time in awhile this award is up for grabs, but it will be.
Runner Up: The Taylors (FNL)
Best Fight: Mikhaal and Jin/Kate/Locke (Lost)~Weak year for the fighting department, but hey, thats what Ryan and Luke perfected three years ago. The orginal fight in the beautifully written Enter 77 was not too chereographed (a problem Alias had) but wasn't lackluster either, unlike the rest of the choices.
Runner Up: Darwin and Russel (Sleeper Cell:AT)
Worst Couple Within a TV Show: Morris and Chloe O'Brien (24)~This isn't what you expected, but as painful as Jim and Pam was, this was just so much worse, because this was pointless, disturbing, and once again pointless.
Runner Up: Jim and Pam (The Office)
Best Television Animal: Mr.Muggles (Heroes):That dog was everyones popular pick for a changeling, even though it never happened. He was just a cute dog. Animals don't really populate the shows I watch, but I will always have this award.
Runner Up: Vincent (Lost)
Show I wish I watched when orginally shown: Sleeper Cell: American Terror~ Easy choice. If I watched my DVD two weeks earlier, these awards would look alot different, but luckily for alot of shows, this did not happen.
Runners Up: 30 Rock, Veronica Mars
Best Fan Group: Jericho~ To be quite honest, this award was only created so I could once again congratulate this super human effort. You know what I liked best about these fans who create an insane website (www.jericholives.com) to try and save their show. That the most important thing is to be nice and polite. And its true. So my hats off, you are great people, cause anger solves nothing (trust me, on the stories of the year event, there will be alot more about this)
Runner Up: Lost (Nice fangroup, but wasn't even close)
Most Disapointing New Show: Vanished~ I enjoyed the Nine at least a bit, but Vanished is the first time that a show I consistantly watched was cancelled and I didn't care. I mean, this was the show I was most excited coming into the season, but failed the most
Runner Up: None
Most Disapointing Returning Show: 24 ~This was a tough call between two, but 24 edged it out because the fact that it started so well, and just became a disaster.
Runner Up: The Office
Best Music Within a Series: Jericho~ This was one as soon as they played "World" (FfF) at a key moment, and then fans started quoting it themselves. Week and week out they end the episode with great songs (The Coldplay song for Johnny Cash for one example).
Runner Up: None
Show I am Saddest to See Go: OC~ Well, Jericho had this award all wrapped up, but I am sure they are happy that they don't anymore. OC had to go sometime, and it went out on top like it should. The final scene, absolutely perfect.
Runner Up: None
Best Entire Cast on a show: House MD~ An easy choice. Even with Foremans slight decline within the season, it still has the strongest cast from top to bottom out of any show.
Runner Up: Sleeper Cell
Best Special Effects: 24~ Despite the weak season, they still love to blow stuff up, and make it look fancy. Every other show has some weakness in this regard. Action scenes still look best in this.
Runner Up: Lost
Best Network: NBC~ Ah yes, an award that matters. This was Fox's award last year, but NBC put out two of the best new shows, and survived on that alone. ABC wasn't close with only a single show, and all of Fox's shows declined or were cancelled. CBS was fine, but this was NBC's all along.
Runner Up: CBS
Best Night of Television: Wednesday~ Just think about what was on this night... Lost... Friday Night Lights... Jericho, and heck even the Nine was here for awhile. This was by far the most dominant night. The ironic part, one of these shows is definitely not returning to the night, and the other two aren't scheduled yet. So the dominant Wednesday could only have one year (although, Gossip Girl is on Wednesdays).
Runner Up: Monday (Heroes, 24, Prison Break)
Most Promising New Show Next Year: Gossip Girl (CW)~ So, this is obviously a premeditated award, but all the trailers for next years shows have been released (and I've watched them all), and they look absolutely terrible. Now, don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean much, cause Vanished won this last year and we saw how that worked out. But this show by the OC creator looks good, and its based off books (with Kristen Bell) So for now its the bright spot
Runner Up: Pushing Daisies (based on critics alone)
Best Show Someone Else Introduced Me Too: How I Met Your Mother~ This show is tolerable, and I have fit it into my summer schedule. Can you believe that this is the only show anyone introduced me to this year... Its quite sad really, but oh well. Its decent so congrats to Thiell for finding it.
Runner Up: Sadly none.
Best Gameshow: 1 vs 100~ It's the gameshow that actually has questions involved. This year was filled with horrors like Identity, and simplic mumbo jumbo like Deal or No Deal, but behind all that (and the terrible host) 1 vs 100 is actually pretty good, and entertaining.
Runner Up: None
Best Reality Show Contestant: Ozzy (Survivor)~ The problem with this award is basically I am choosing my favorite character from both seasons of Survivor on during this year. While Fiji was better, Ozzy was my favorite. So I there you go.
Runner Up: Dreamz
Best Scene of the Season: The Brig (Lost)~ This is such a specific question, that its hard to handle, but the best scene of a TV show this season has to be when Sawyer killed his dad. It was monumental for the shows movement, and more importantly for Sawyers character development. For this season, it was the best scene.
Runner Up: Smash's Walkout on FNL
And the most important individual award of all:
The Boone Memorial Award (Best Televised Death): Charlie (Lost)~ A very tough call this year, but Charlies death in the finale was fantastic. Well acted, well set up, and very symbolic. Now, don't get me wrong. This award is named after the greatest TV death of alltime, and this still doesn't hold a candle to Boone (or even last years winner, Westmoreland of PB) but Charlies death did the job well
Runners Up: Eden McCain (Heroes), Tom (Lost)
Best Acting for the Season: Michael Emerson (Ben on Lost)~ Easy choice. First off, in case you didn't know this he won the Emmy for best guest star in a tv show for his job on "The Practice" and his acting has not decreased at all. He cleaned up in this award.

Trip Down Memory Lane
Well, most of you don't know who was succesful in the major awards for the first two years so I decided to release them to you all. Enjoy, and hopefully looking at this will remind you of the great shows that have existed in the time of my award show. I will put the winners, comments about it, and nominees with some comments.
Don Awards 1 (2004-2005):
Best Television Show:
Winner: Lost (season 1) ~Easy decision. This was by far the best show on television in its pilot season, as while it started a bit slowly, it then took off. By the end of the season, I knew the future was bright, but never knew it looks so bright
Other Nominees: OC (season 2), 24 (season 4), Survivor: All Stars, American Dreams (season 3) ~The defending champ of the best show, OC, took a huge drop in the second season, along with the story pathlines of once superpower American Dreams. It got cancelled afterwords, which was sad but understand. Survivor All-Stars was the sleeper as it was intriguing, but not enough to put any threat
Best Male Character:
Winner: Ryan Atwood (OC) ~ Despite the fall of season 2, Ryan still impressed and continued his dominance. However, it was a close and a decision I didn't make until the last minute. His dominance never let up, as he has been nominated every single year of the awards for his show.
Other Nominees: JJ Prior (American Dreams), Sawyer Ford (Lost), Boone Carlyle (Lost), Tony Almeda (24) ~ The biggest competition came from the Lost duo, as Sawyer was consistantly interesting, while Boone's heart was always in the right place til' the end. In the end it was those two who put the pressure on, and sadly for Sawyer with nominations every year he has still yet to win.
Best Female Character
Winner: Shannon Rutherford (Lost) ~Out of all my winners, this was possibly the weakest, as none of the big shows this year really had strong star female characters. Shannon always was an enjoyable character as the stepsister for Boone, but looking back it still surprises me that she stole this reward
Other Nominees: Meg Prior (American Dreams), Michelle Dessler (24), Amber Bkrich (Survivor: All Stars), Kirsten Cohen (OC) ~The thing that stands out most, is that because of the weakness here, a reality player got into the character awards. I frown greatly on this, but looking back whatever choice did I have. I mean, Michelle and Meg where career strong players who had down years, so in the end completely unimpressive looking back. Now if I had been watching House during its first season, Cameron would've cleaned up in this category, but I wasn't.
Best Reoccuring Character:
Winner: Andy Hargrove (One Tree Hill) ~ The out of nowhere winner, he was the one bright spot in the second season, and him and Karen Roe was the strength of it. The Australian was in a ton of episodes and deserving of more, but sadly never returned. Great character during the fall of One Tree Hill
Other Nominees: Christian Shepherd (Lost), Paul Raines (24), Curtis Manning (24), Carter Buckley (OC) ~ Alot stands out here, mainly Jack's dad being a competitor here. During this season he appeared 4 times, including his powerful scene with Sawyer in his flashback. Looking back, I am surprised he lost, but Andy was powerful. The other three character, great, but in comparison to other casts of reoccuring characters... weak
Best Episode:
Winner: Deux Ex Machina (Lost) ~Great episode, that had it all. Emotion, an interesting flashback with big implications, and of course Boone and alot of it. I watched the trailer for this episode a million times, and looking back, I would still pick this episode everytime.Other Nominees: Do No Harm (Lost), Confidence Man (Lost), Tidings of Comfort and Joy (American Dreams), The Dearly Beloved (OC) ~ What stands out, is how Lost dominated this category, but there is none you could omit. Do No Harm (along with Tidings of Comfort and Joy of AD) both evoked more emotion that any other tv show sense, and Confidence Man was the episode that created my love for Lost. Really only Dearly Beloved looks weak looking back, but oh well, I couldn't just nominate another Lost episode.
Other Nominees: Prison Break (Season 1), 24 (Season 5), House (Season 2), Survivor: Exile Island ~ What really stands out here, is I am surprised O.C was not part of this list. I mean there were tough calls, but including this years lack of O.C nods, and this past year, they have been the first one out back-to-back years. That is tough.
Best Male Character:
Winner: Michael Schofield: ~ When I look at this, I see how much he has fallen by breaking out of prison. This was easily the best character last season, and this season he wasn't even close. I still like him, but he belongs in a Prison setting, and hopefully he rebounds next year
Other Nominees: "Sawyer" Ford (Lost), Ryan Atwood (O.C), Jack Shepherd (Lost), Bill Buchanan (24)~ Two dominate career participants are here, but the closest competion (whom wasn't that close) was Jack in by far his best season, and the best acting job in all of television this year. The extent of his emotions were amazing, but Schofield was just a more enjoyable character
Best Female Character:
Winner: Veronica Donnel (Prison Break) ~ While Prison Break, didn't win best show, it dominated in the character department. Sadly, Veronica never had a chance to defend her title as she was killed off very early in the second season, but she was a shoo in and did a great job.
Other Nominees: Allison Cameron (O.C), Karen Hayes (24), Kate Austin (Lost), Sun Paik-Kwon (24) ~To begin with both members of Lost on here were weak nominees, and Karen Hayes just fell into place. All three of these characters had a chance to repeat this season in nominee, but none made it. Allison Cameron was the biggest competition, and is definitely one of the strongest candidates this year, so I am pleased with her placement in this past season.
Best Reoccuring Character:
Winner: Henry Gale (Lost) ~ We all know him better as Benjamin Linus, this season. It was fitting that my winner of this award was elevated to a regular this season. Basically if you've seen any episode with him, you understand, he dominated.
Other Nominees: Taylor Townsend (OC), Kevin Volchek (OC), "Tweener" Apolkis (Prison Break), Nick Savarin (Prison Break) ~Bizzarre group with only two shows represented in the section. What stands out is Taylors move to regular made her even more powerful, and Tweener's fall from this nominee, to now a trial of manslaughter after drinking and driving. Oh well, for some time raises their stock, other times it decreases it.
Best Episode:
Winner: Go! (Prison Break) ~ Dominate winner, and another sign of Prison Breaks domination in all the awards but the most important one. This is the second to last episode where they actually get out, and it was amazing. The episode after, disapointing, but this one definitely was not.
Other Nominees: Detention (Cold Case), The Longest Con (Lost), The Party Favors (OC), Euphoria {2} (House) ~The Cold Case episode is still what stands out, because it was the best single episode of a detective show I have ever seen, and so heart warming. The Lost episode actually wasn't that close, and the other two were way outsiders. All in all, a strong grouping, but not nearly as good as the preceding award show
So there you go. A fun trip to see how television was the two seasons before this long, along with some great input by the award tycoon himself. Hopefully this kept you interested enough to keep tooning in, because if I am write, individuals awards are on Friday, and thats a huge event that you should be prepared for. Enjoy
